Clinical Sciences

Description:

The department of clinical science is one of the major departments in the College of Medicine at the University of Sulaimania. It is newly established and comprises all the previous clinical departments in the college. The department target area is a phase 2 undergraduate students, which include stages 4th, 5th and 6th in the medical college. Besides, it involves the postgraduate study in different specialties and subspecialties. The department includes different medical, surgical, obstetric and gynecology, pediatric, psychiatric and community medicine specialties. It has over 143 teaching staffs which has a vast numbers of professors, assistant professors, PhD and MSCs.

Vision of The department of clinical Sciences, strives to achieve excellence in teaching major clinical science and achieve the intended learning outcomes through the teaching process and scientific research and contributes to the development of clinical sciences, distinguished by the quality of our students, the quality of its research and the adequacy of its teaching programs.

Branch Mission:

The Department is dedicated to foster the understanding of clinical scientific principles and to help our students through dedicated teaching, commitment and innovative instructional methods, in discovering their talents. To develop an integrated medical experience using evidence-based delivery grounded in the science of learning.

Learning Outcomes:

1.Integration and progression of the major clinical science in general medicine, surgery and primary care services by providing both theoretical and practical lectures in the hospitals. 2.Providing a selective module throughout the year in different subjects of medical subspecialties with an aim to develop their skills in an area of an interest 3.Increase the student’s ability and their understanding of the different subspecialty such as ENT, ophthalmology, maternity care, neurology and psychiatry medicine in the 5th year. 4.Providing job shadowing in different hospital with an integration of guided approach to different medical and surgical cases in the hospitals throughout the year and get the students ready to practice as a supervised doctor in next year. 5.Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and their relatives. Communicate clinical information both verbally and in writing to medical colleagues and other healthcare professionals involved in patient care. 6.Demonstrate an understanding of legal and ethical principles and responsibilities to patients, peers, and members of the healthcare team. 7.Adopt a lifelong learning method by sharing, perusing, and updating information of relevant scientific developments in medicine

Study Methods:

1- Theory lectures 2- Selective module through face to face interview 3- Practical and small group session in different hospitals

English is the instruction language for all the stages

Duration:

The duration of study in College of medicine is six academic years. Within this for the phase 2 is the last three years
