Description:

The department of basic medical science is an essential department of College of Medicine at University of Sulaimania. This department is newly established and incorporates all the previous college basic science departments, the department target area is phace 1 undergraduate students which include stage 1, 2 and 3, In addition to under graduate students The department has many teaching staff and postgraduate students doing their career study under the supervision of our department academic staff.

Vision of The department of Basic Medical Sciences, strives to achieve excellence in teaching basic science and achieve the intended learning outcomes through the teaching process and scientific research and contributes to the development of basic medical sciences, distinguished by the quality of our students, the quality of its research and the adequacy of its teaching programs.

Branch Mission:

The Department of Basic Sciences is dedicated to foster the understanding of basic scientific principles and to help our students through dedicated teaching, commitment and innovative instructional methods, in discovering their talents. To develop an integrated medical experience using evidence-based delivery grounded in the science of learning.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Application of biomedical scientific principles and basic science knowledge as integrative disciplines in a system-based model to serve clinical practice. 2. Understand the normal structure and function of the body, explain the development of various pathologic processes, and use scientific methods to establish the causation of diseases and the efficacy of therapies. 3. Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and their relatives. Communicate clinical information both verbally and in writing to medical colleagues and other healthcare professionals involved in patient care. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of legal and ethical principles and responsibilities to patients, peers, and members of the healthcare team. 5. Adopt a lifelong learning method by sharing, perusing, and updating information of relevant scientific developments in medicine.

1- Theoretical lectures 2- Practical and small group session 3- Laboratory and Clinical skill learning

English is the instruction language for all the stages.

Duration:

The duration of study in College of medicine is six academic years.
