On Saturday, May 11th, 2024, a workshop titled “Screening and Management of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents” was conducted by Dr. Rozhan Nabaz and Dr. Jamal Muhammed at Jamal Ahmed Rashid Pediatric Teaching Hospital. The workshop commenced with a pre-awareness evaluation of pediatricians and resident pediatricians, facilitated through a Google Form featuring questions regarding their knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Subsequently, Dr. Jamal delivered a presentation on the subject, followed by a demonstration of blood pressure measurement on a child by Dr. Rozhan. The session concluded with an open discussion and a post-awareness assessment, gathering questions and feedback from the participants.

A 2-day Workshop was held by Assistant Professor, Dr.Sherko Zmnako on the 4th and 5th of May 2024 for the Academic staff, about the upcoming research project assessments of year 4 students, at CoM, UoS.

The content of the Workshop:

1. How to assess the student’s research.
2. Structural marking during article review and assessment.

The College of Medicine (CoM-UoS) was granted unconditional  four years international accreditation for its Bachelor Program by the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Initiations (AQACHEI) on April 17, 2024. This was achieved following a thorough  evaluation by the (AQACHEI) delegation which included inspection of the infrastructure of the college and teaching hospitals as well as reviewing the strategic plan, laws, curriculum, scientific research and community commitments of the college.
This remarkable achievement was the fruit of the distinguished efforts of the Accreditation Committee for over a year as well as the support of the Deanery, faculties, staff and students. The acquisition of international accreditation offers global recognition by the World Federation for Medical Education which is regarded to be a milestone in the history of the college, ensuring that the College of Medicine’s graduates hold globally recognized qualifications.

The dean of the College of Medicine; Prof. Dr. Twana Abdulrahman, honored the former editorial board and editor in chief; Prof. Dr. Muhammed Omer, of the Journal of Sulaimani Medical College by being awarded certificates of acknowledgment and gratitude for their sincere services. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Omer welcomed the new editorial board and editor in chief wishing them success in their new posts

A workshop hosted by Dr.Sherko Ali commenced with a comprehensive presentation on THE ranking on March 10th, which was attended by many faculty members. This was followed by an open discussion.

On Wednesday, 6th March, the Medical Education Department held a Workshop for the Module/Block leaders, Presented by Dr.Darya S. Abdulateef, and organized by Dr.Darya and Dr.Trifa A. Mahmood.

The Workshop includes an introduction about Formative Assessments, and a step-by-step guide on making Google forms for formative assessments, followed by a practical session; on making Google forms by workshop attendees.

During their child health block, fifth-year medical students went on a field trip to a junior private school where they conducted a seminar on seasonal flu and prevention for first-grade students. They also performed general exams, checked vital signs, and took anthropometric measurements for eighth-year students.
